Dr. Raghavendra Kulkarni

Distinguished Professor

Raghavendra G. Kulkarni received B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Karnatak University in 1979, M.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras in 1982, and Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur in 1998. He joined Hybrid Microcircuits (HMC) division of Bharat Electronics Ltd., (BEL) Bengaluru in 1982 as Deputy Engineer and developed several Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices for commercial and defence applications. From 1998 to 2014, Dr. Kulkarni, in various capacities, successfully led a team of R & D engineers for development of SAW devices, thick-film & thin-film HMCs, and MEMS pressure transducers for strategic applications. Dr. Kulkarni won two BEL R & D Excellence Awards, one in 1989---for development of SAW filters used in TV receivers, and one in 2011---for development of HMCs used in missile telemetry. In November 2013, he received Raksha-Mantri Award for development of electronic modules for missiles. Dr. Kulkarni has obtained two patents on SAW devices and has authored more than sixty papers in the field of SAW devices, signal processing, and mathematics. He is the inventor of several window functions used in signal processing applications. In September 2014, Dr. Kulkarni joined PES University, Bengaluru, as Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. He is a senior member of IEEE, life member of---Ramanujan Mathematical Society, Indian Mathematical Society, and IMAPS-India. Dr. Kulkarni is reviewer for the scholarly journals---SIGNAL PROCESSING (Elsevier), Proceedings of NAS (Springer), PRIMUS (Taylor & Francis) and IEEE Transactions on UFFC. He has given invited talks at TIFR Mumbai, IIT Delhi, SSPL Delhi, IGCAR Kalpakkam, LRDE Bangalore, IISc Bengaluru, Defence Lab Jodhpur, etc., and conducted workshops on design of SAW filters at ISRO and BEL, Bengaluru.
