Dr. Seema Tharannum

Associate Professor

Dr. Seema Tharannum obtained Master of Science in Biotechnology from Mysore University , Master of Philosophy in Biotechnology from Bharathidasan University and PhD in Biotechnology from Kuvempu University. She is working as Associate Professor at PES University since 2003 and has a total 26 years of experience in teaching. She had completed two funded projects, as Principal Investigator for a UGC minor research project for 'Microbial mediated remediation of chromium in electroplating industry' for 1.5 Lakhs (2011-2013) and Co investigator for a CDAC sponsored project 'Detection of Pebrine spores' for an amount of 6 lakhs. (2014), the project has ended up in commercialization of the product under trade name PP solution (PES Pebrine solution) at Institute. She has 15 International and National Journal publications and more than fifty conference paper presentations. She has presented papers in India, Malaysia, Dubai, Thailand, Qatar and Singapore. She is a registered guide for PhD and M Tech by Research candidates at PES University. She has successfully guided one Post Doctoral and one PhD candidate and guiding five at present. She has also guided more than fifty post graduate and under graduate student groups . She has organized many National and International seminars, conferences and workshops at Institute. She has Organizational involvement like: Coordinator for Youth Indian Red cross wing-PESU, Internal Audit committee-member, Anti sexual harassment committee- convener, Doctoral Committee member and community development programs. She has been a coordinator for a Government of Karnataka sponsored Program called Biotechnology Finishing School (BTFS) and now Biotechnology Skill Enhancement Program (BiSEP) that train candidates for Clinical Research and Data Management Program from all over India. She is a member of board of studies of various colleges and Universities. She has chaired many sessions at international and national conferences. She has Successfully cleared the Training of Trainer assessment for Scientific writing under LSSSDC, GoI. She has represented PESU as an invited guest to deliver talks and webinars at different organizations. She is instrumental in organizing MoUs with Industries. She has been a member of technical committee of International conferences and a reviewer of Journals.
